interested in the process of political appointments and how it changes from administration to administration?
Listen to today's Diane Rehm Show.  Go to www.wamu.org and click
on Diane Rehm Show and archives.  She had an excellent panel
including Susan Page of USA Today and Mark Thompson of Time Mag …
Thompson and his team hit the bull's eye two weeks in a row with
coverage of the Katrina response the week of Sept 19 and appointees the
week of Sept. 26.
When you're checking those out (you can get to them at time.com) make sure you read Mark Allen's pieces at the same time.
From time to time we've all wished we were flies on the wall….Well, from now on, we'll just call Allen “FlyMan.”

The Time Mag site isn't particularly easy to navigate if you're looking for an old piece, but stick with it.

3 October 2005 Congratulations
on standing up. One question, if I may: How is it possible to tax CSRS
retirement contributions going into the Civil Service Retirement &
Disability Fund and then to tax the majority
of those contributions coming out of Fund as annuity payments?

Are lobbyists overpaid?

Cool site. Great mission. Please consider discussing/exposing the relatively unreported but rather astounding explosion in lobbying firm profits and in starting lobbyist salaries (which say there were really fat times in the past and the high first year salaries ($140,000+) augur the same for the future). This explosion seems to mirror the Bush and Delay years of power. Democracy and 'one person one vote'? I guess it exists but lobbyists must believe that notion is only for those quaint things called elections. Everything else in Washington and federal goverment - access, responsiveness, you name it -is being sold to the highest, richest special interest bidder (witness Mr. Abramov and others). It is a chilling signal. My government has a price tag and no one seems to notice or report on government for sale. Gucci Gulch was the 80's term. Do we have a new 00's moniker for this political greed?
