The Best Places to Work in Gov't. and other
statements made by officials at DOD and DHS indicate that people would
prefer a performance-based pay system. I am a Special Agent with one of
those departments and can say that in my agency, agents are NOT unhappy
with the GS pay system. We are unhappy with supervisors who reward
their friends with cash awards. We are unhappy with management that
promotes inexperienced or incompetent cronies to supervisory positions
over hard-working, experienced agents. The same problems that seem to
create the need for the new and improved performanced based pay systems
are the reasons that the systems can't work.
