Cronyism: Questions About Julie Myers

I heard an interview with Senator Voinovich today in which he
essentially apologized for suggesting earlier that Julie Myers was
unqualified.  He said the 36-year-old impressed him very much in a
one-hour meeting today, and that he sees no problem.  Moreover, he
said Chertoff has unshakable confidence in her.

Questions abound.  How difficult is the ICE job?  What does
it involve?  Is it undergoing transition/difficult transition
after moving into DHS?   What does the statute require and
why?

Looks like DHS
is getting Julie Myers, related to Chmn of the Joint Chiefs, married to
Chertoff underling, former Chertoff assistant, as the head of ICE. If
you add up all of Myers work experience, you don't even come close to
the qualifications required for the job - which are imposed BY STATUTE!
The law, and it is the law, with respect to hiring for this position is
being openly ignored. I've been a Special Agent (Customs) for 10 yeats
and I always think I can't be shocked by the federal government's
actions anymore, but wow.

as a supervisor for 9 yrs and a fed employee
for 18 plus yrs I believe the pay for performance is a waste of time
and resources from the real problems which is not letting the
supervisors do their jobs. I have tried to fire 2 people on seperate
occasions in the past 5 yrs and was told I could not do it. My
paperwork was correct and documentation was all in order. Instead of
firing them they were moved to another area of the building. These 2
people were treated with kid gloves. They should have been tossed on
their ass out the door. Now they are still getting a paycheck and doing
a slack job.
