When does a Cop have to die to be given entitlements as a Police Officer?
by Anonymous on 2005.10.08 10:37AM EDT  |

Ans. When he is a DOD Police Officer.

My uniform's clean and crisp. My badge I shine each morning just before I go to work. At work when I arrive, I holster my 9 Mil., and I wonder what I will face today. To protect and serve is my goal. My point is that I (We) do what all other federal police officers do. But we who are on the F.E.R.S. get to retire when we are age 62. $800 a month is what I'll get then, at todays prices. And only a partial C.O.L.A. at that. But it is a noble profession. Most Officers in other plans have the 20 year retirement plan.

There is a Bill in congress HR # 1002. It is the best chance for those of us to who belong to C.S.R.S. and F.E.R.S. to be appointed Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)status.

Respectfuly,
A Lead Police Officer (A.L.P.O.)

I work for the DOD Police. Good ole boys run amuck anyways. This will give them even more wiggle room. As you may realize, we have groups of officers per shift. I overheard a supervisor say that “If (name) wants to ever see a pay raise or c.o.l.a. increase. He had better start kissing up alot.” Think about it. It hasn't been implimented yet. Bobby

Just want to say a few things about this pay for performance system that DOD has it in their minds that would be good for us as federal employees.
First, this newly proposed system is not just a standard pay for performance system. It has been so convoluted by the constructors as to not be recognizeable as a pay for performance system. If you have a first line supervisor and he deems his employee to be outstanding and a wonderful worker deserving of a raise for the year, then how can a pay pool manage then decide to reduce the amount of raise given this individual? It will not be funded to an appropriate amount to be able to give all individuals at least a minimum raise.
Secondly, why, when we depend wholeheartedly on teamwork and sharing of all information with each other to keep our troops safe and with up to date weaponry in their hands, would we want to pit each member of these teams against each other for their raises each year. What you do is take the loyalty to the mission and support of our troops and redirect it towards an individual supervisor who holds the power to give you a raise that year or not.
The third and most important fact is that with all new regulations that have been foisted upon the federal employees in the last thirty one years I have worked for them, there is never enough training for either the employees or the supervisors to allow them to fully understand the system before employing it. Mind you that these are the same individuals that have screwed up the present system to the point that DOD would rather scrap the current system for a new, more difficult to administer system.
That is why, within the federal workforce, this pay for performance system will not work.

An anonymous poster on ICE (see
below).  We'd love to hear more:  I keep hearing agency is a
mess.  Can readers give us explanation from inside?

I think the law
requires the head of Immigration & Customs Enforcement to have 5
years law enforcement experience, which I know that Ms. Myers doesn't,
and 5 years management experience. I think she has 1 or 2 years.

The agency is a mess. From the border & airport inspection
side, I guess it makes sense to combine Immigration & Customs. From
the investigative side, the 2 agencies have such different missions.
There is no sense to combining them into one giant agency. And just to
make one thing clear - as we were told 30 days after the creation of
DHS in 2003, “We don't investigate terrorism.”

The singular qualification necessary for
appointment to a senior level position is loyalty to GW.
Career/professional experience is irrelevant. Ms. Myers mission will
not be to support the employees of ICE, or even the enforcement of
customs and immigration laws. Her mission will be to support GW and
further a political agenda. Sad but true.

TSA Performance Based Pay
by The Best Handwander on 2005.10.08 04:34PM EDT  |

At least other Agencies are getting a raise when they get evaluated, by merit, by Steps or by Performance. TSA is the Only Federal Agency which Does Not give a Raise to their Leads and Screeners.

We Have been working for 3 years Without a raise. Managers. Supervisors and the Big Honchos are getting them. I guess that the People who are Really working are Not worth anything..

Thanks TSA for supporting the Screening force.
