The Bush Administration has proposed major cuts to the Census Bureau’s Survey on Income and Program Participation, or SIPP. SIPP tracks users of federal social programs, providing data about participation levels and effects on well-being of citizens who benefit from Medicaid, welfare payments, food stamps, and school lunch subsidies. Interviewed in the New York Times, administrator of the Small Business Administration Steven Preston said that “the budget we have allows us to fulfill our mission, and within that budget we are going to be a much more effective and . . . efficient agency at performing what we do.”  Despite a generally popular reception in the business community, the SBA is a constant target for budget cuts and even closing.  More here.
