Briefing cards on members of congressional delegations to Iraq are distributed to nearly every government employee who may come into contact with a visiting member of Congress.  The sheets contain a photo, bio, and the legislator’s batting record on Iraq-related measures in Congress.  See Jonathan Weisman’s story in the Washington Post here.

While such trading cars may not be wisest use of government resources, I think that characterizing it as being “slimed” is overly harsh. I am impressed that the military thinks enough of its people to give them the tools to attempt to deal with the disparate personalities and opinions of visiting individuals. And as for the politicos, perhaps they could benefit from thicker skins.

I was impressed (worried?) in the Post piece by the congressman who tried to find something positive in the fact that the Iraqi minister he was meeting with wanted to watch cartoons instead of talking about the future of his country.
