President Bush plans to sign into law a bill cutting subsidies for student loan companies and increasing direct government financial support for college students, the Washington Post reports.  The reforms arrive just a few months after abuses and corruption in the student lending industry were uncovered, first by Higher Education Watch of the New America Foundation, and later by New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and others.  See the Post story here.

The Terrorist Screening Center, run by the FBI, oversees the list used to prevent known terrorists from entering the United States.  The list has brought many innocent U.S. citizens misery during their travels, because their names matched, or appeared to match, names of known terrorists.  Philip Shenon writes in the New York Times that the list is still causing problems — including for omitting actual known terrorists.  See more here on the report of Glen Fine, Inspector General at the Justice Department.
