Administration officials spent last year talking up the Energy Department’s Future GenAlliance project, a plan to trap carbon emissions in coal before they reach the atmosphere. Now the Department is dropping the project due to high costs and new technologies that may make coal-fired plants (even with carbon-trapping) obsolete.  The Washington Post’s Steven Mufson gets into the politics of “clean coal” technology.  Read Mufson here.
