GLOBAL WARMING: WHAT’S BUSH TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH?

President’s Bush declared yesterday that the U.S. will halt the increase in greenhouses gases by 2025 and China and India should follow suit. Why, with nine months left in his Presidency, did Bush make this announcement?

The New York Times’ Sheryl Gay Stolberg reports that most immediately it will affect an international global warming conference held in Paris today.  Long-term, it may be an attempt to preempt stricter regulations proposed by the next President.

Or maybe, it could be an acknowledgement by the President that 50 years from now his biggest legacy will be largely ignoring a warming climate.  Read Stolberg here. MB
