The New York Times’ Conrad Mulcahy reports that Iraqis who have worked as interpreters for the U.S. military continue have trouble immigrating to the United States. Translators are not only in the line of fire but face particular dangers from Iraqi insurgents who often label them traitors for working with the U.S.

But rewarding interpreters for their work by getting them out of the war zone is hard. There have been about 20,000 interpreters since the war started, but the State Dept. has only set aside 500 immigrations spots for these Iraqis.  Read Mulcahy here.  MB
