John Conyers, (D-Mi.) and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, subpoenaed Karl Rove yesterday to testify before his committee. Conyers particularly wants Rove to speak under oath about selective prosecution of Democratic officials, including former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.
The Washington Post’s Carrie Johnson reports that, over the objections of Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Conyers has got the Justice Dept. to open its own investigation on selective prosecutions. As Conyers points out, Rove, while reluctant to speak before the committee, is more than happy to discuss the Siegelman affair in his new day job as Fox News color commentator. Read Johnson here. MB
