The New York Times Eric Lichtblau and Nicholas Wade look at the continued skepticism by forensic scientists about the FBI’s assertion that Bruce Ivins acted alone in delivering deadly anthrax. The FBI held a press conference yesterday where bureau scientists made the unusual move of laying out exactly how their investigation led to Ivins. But there are still questions about how Ivins delivered anthrax to a few of his alleged victims and why the FBI has relied so much on circumstantial evidence.

With the Democratic and Republican Party conventions looming, the anthrax story’s front-page reign will soon come to end. What bears monitoring is whether it returns when Congress does in September or if lawmakers choose not to prioritize the FBI in their oversight duties.-MB
