The Washington Post’s Walter Pincus tells us that the Pentagon is in search of a director for Defense Media Activity. The job pays well — $172,000 a year — but is full of media coordination responsibilities from supervising the Bloggers Roundtable to getting out the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine magazines.
The subtext of the article, of course, is that the Pentagon took some unethical shortcuts in getting out their message about the Iraq War — bankrolling retired generals to go on TV under the guise of independent analysts. It would appear, though, that the media director will be so busy juggling legit Pentagon communications that it will take him or her at least a year to set up shadow messaging.-MB
