I think Hillary Clinton and Tim Geithner are bad choices as cabinet secretaries. But a lot of smart, informed people that care about the public good think they are good choices. Does anybody, though, defend what the Bush administration is pulling in its last few weeks?

The Washington Post’s Juliet Eilperin reports that jobs which normally go to scientists at the Energy Dept. and Drug Enforcement Administration are being rewarded to political hacks. In the process career civil servants with qualifications relevant to these jobs aren’t getting them. This kind of "burrowing" has been done by other administrations. But it seems that Bush is trying continue the politicization of science after his departure.-MB
