While I was wasting my weekend away, watching the disappointing Frost/Nixon, Barack Obama was naming his Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Obama named New York City housing commissioner Shaun Donovan to the post. Obama has also named Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion to head the first ever White House Office Urban Policy office. So national urban policy will, somewhat logically, be led by two people from the country’s biggest urban center.

So far the word on Donovan is positive. The New York TimesJackie Calmes notes that he has been involved in housing issues as a private investor, academic, non-profit advocate and city administrator. Donavan most recently worked on a program to build and preserve housing for low-and-moderate income New Yorkers. One question for him might be how plan participants have fared since the mortgage crisis.-MB
