I haven’t been closely following the latest from Iraq so take this with a grain of salt. But what the Washington Post’s Ernesto Londono reports today about al-Qaeda in Iraq sounds kind of terrifying: the Sunni insurgent group separate from the al-Qaeda we’re fighting in Afghanistan, is preparing an organized assault on the Iraq government. Has the U.S. and Iraqi government sufficiently trained Iraqi Security Forces to hold off the insurgency? I guess at this point the U.S. has more important things to worry about than stable Iraq governance — like, um, stable Afghanistan governance.
