Help Understanding Government build a website honoring the ideas of its founder, Charles Peters! We want to transform this website into an ongoing resource about ideas on government and the media advanced by Charlie Peters and the many journalists he has worked with over the years. With your help, www.understandinggov.org can be a vibrant tribute Charlie’s tireless efforts to help Americans understand the way Washington really works, both as founding editor of The Washington Monthly and as founder of Understanding Government. |

Support an independent documentary about our founder, Charles Peters. Author and social critic Norman Kelley has produced a film about Charlie Peters’ role in supporting independent media from 1969 (when he founded The Washington Monthly) to today. The film, entitled “How Washington Really Works: Charlie Peters and the Washington Monthly,” looks at Charlie’s vision for better journalism in America — in the face of corporate media consolidation and the power of money in American politics. (More about the film here).
Understanding Government is the fiscal sponsor for Norman Kelley’s film project “How Washington Really Works: Charlie Peters and the Washington Monthly”. As fiscal sponsor, Understanding Government directs 95% of all donations received toward the costs of making the film, and receives 5% of each donation to cover administrative costs associated with the project. |
